TB Scott Free Library Adult Services Department presents: Capone Coming to Merrill in the eyes of Deirdre Marie Capone, niece of Al Capone!
The Niece of Al Capone... Living history at its best! Deirdre Marie Capone will be speaking for the first time ever in North Central Wisconsin! Listen for the historical events from the Capone family point of view! Deirdre, author of Uncle Al Capone is speaking for the TB Scot Free Library Words Worth Hearing series.
At 79, this maybe your only chance to hear the last of the immediate relatives of "Public Enemy #1" as Deidre knew him simply as a charismatic, fun-loving Uncle that was a joy to be around. However, if family business needed to be discussed, "The Outfit" Uncle Al turned on his steely eyes and stern scowl so on one would challenge him. In Al's own words "The country wanted booze, and I organized it. Why should I be called a 'public enemy'?"
Deirdre Marie Capone will also reveal her own heartache of hiding from the family name. She was fired from an insurance company after doing an exemplary job for 6 months simply because they learned Capone was her real last name. Deirdre asked Aunt Maffie, "Why did Uncle Al do so many terrible things? Why was he such a terrible person?"
You'll hear the Capone family account of who they believe the real perpetrators of the St. Valentine's Massacre were. You don't want to miss this TB Scott Free program at the Merrill High School Auditorium on Tuesday August 13. Doors will open at 5:30pm for the 6pm presentation. A limited number of Uncle Al Capone books will be available for sale by Dynamo Creative Marketing. This Words Worth Hearing program is made possible by area business sponsors.
This historic informative peek into the private life of the Capone Family. This program is made possible through the generosity of TB Scott Free Library.
